After all of the driving and sightseeing, Thursday was a day for sleeping in, spa, photos around the hotel and laying out. We accomplished every single one of our goals for Thursday.
Our first three hours were spent between the beach lounge chairs, the crystal blue water and a little reading. After all of that effort we took a break from the sun for lunch a couple buildings down from the hotel and then returned for treatments at the hotel spa. Lindsay relaxed with a hot stone massage (it was incredible!!) and I had a very relaxing full-body massage. After both of our massages we took a spin around the hydro-therapy pool – it’s an oddly shaped swimming pool with all kinds of jets that shoot water at you at different angels.
After all of that activity it was time to lay out for a few more hours. According to advertising in the airport, that evening was supposedly some type of festival in downtown Palma and according to the ad we expected plenty of dancing. We drove into Palma to check out the festival and to see their enormous and fancy cathedral. The advertising was a bit misleading but we had a great time anyway. Apparently Thursday nights are just the day that street vendors stay open later. Someone at the advertising company must have thought dancing would be a good way to convey this info. It was mostly locally made jewelry and an opportunity to practice our Spanish negotiating.
We explored to local jewelry, indulged in some gelato tapas (poppyseed meringue and mojito flavors…yum!), then walked around the outside of the cathedral. At this point in our trip I was desperate for some nail clippers (which neither of us had brought) and Lindsay was stalking some pantalones that she wanted so we had good excuses to walk all over downtown. After finding the clippers and failing on the pants our appetites were ready for dinner so we made our way back to the port for another dinner by the water. Gazpacho, halibut, chicken curry, and the required liter of sangria completed our last dinner in Espana. After that we went home, packed and went to sleep. This was the end of our journey to Espana but we will be back!!
