(From Brian)
After settling in to our room we stopped out by the pool to take in the view and then walked down the street to get lunch. Quite a few things were closed (siesta time perhaps) and we were surprised to find a significant number of Turkish restaurants. We cruised a couple of blocks and peeked into some stores before sitting down at a restaurant named Istanbul. We over-ordered and everything was delicious so there would be a handy little snack for later.
After lunch we were due for a little time at the beach so we picked a spot with a couple of beach chairs and laid down for some relaxation. After about an hour we were asked to pay for the chair rental but hadn't brought any money with us. We both thought the chairs were associated with the hotel but apparently it is a public beach. The guy was nice and let us stay without paying but said we would have to pay the next time. I think our lack of being tan convinced the guy that we really were new to the area. Laying out quickly turned into a three hour stay in which we both fell asleep multiple times.
For dinner we decided to head into Palma and check out the city. On the way we passed by a bar called Made in Brasil (their spelling) which was packed full, out the door and into one lane of the street due to Brazil's world cup game. We parked our half sized car in a half sized parking spot and went to join these true fans in enjoying the game. Brasil fans in Mallorca put the Spain fans in Barca to shame, which makes us really want to go to Brasil for the next world cup. Drums and chants going the entire time and the number of people made it very impressive. We grabbed an appetizer from a nearby store (gelato for .80 a scoop) and watched about a third of the game before heading down the street for pizza and salad. Thus far pizza is available everywhere and Mexican food does not seem to exist in the country. After dinner we headed back to the hotel, sat outside on the terrace and then made it an early night (meaning we went to bed around 1am).
